Adoption Process
MLRR does its best to match the right dog with the right family by learning as much as possible about each potential adoptive family before placing a dog.
- Read and agree to our Adoption Policies.
- After your application is accepted, an MLRR volunteer will contact you to arrange a home visit.
- You will be notified if you are approved for adoption.
- Approved adopters will be contacted when a potential Labrador match becomes available.
Adoption Fees
- Puppies under 12 months: $500, plus spay/neuter deposit if intact
- Adult Labs, ages 1–7: $400
- Senior Labs, ages 8 and up: $350
If a puppy or adult Lab is not spayed or neutered before adoption, a $100 deposit is due at the time of adoption in addition to the adoption fee. This deposit is returned once MLRR receives proof of alter. Adoption fees help offset rescue expenses incurred by MLRR.
Spaying and Neutering
MLRR is committed to responsible pet ownership and canine health. All dogs over one year of age are spayed or neutered before adoption.
For puppies under one year of age, MLRR does not perform early spay or neuter procedures. Current veterinary research supports delaying these surgeries until after a puppy’s first year, which may reduce the risk of certain health issues later in life.
Adopters of unaltered puppies are required to have their dog spayed or neutered by the time the dog reaches one year of age. MLRR will alter the puppy at one of our veterinary partners at our expense. Adopters may also choose to use their own veterinarian at their own expense. Proof of the procedure must be provided to MLRR in accordance with the adoption agreement.
This policy helps prevent unwanted litters and supports the long-term health and well-being of our dogs.
