Hi! I’m Bars — and I have long legs, a goofy grin, and a whole lot of curiosity. I’m the perfect mix of playful and chill: full of energy and excitement when we’re outside, but calm, quiet, and well-mannered once we’re back indoors.
I came to MLRR as an owner surrender, but I’ve settled into foster life like a natural. I love being out and about — I’ve done great with long walks along the lakefront, farmer’s markets, parks, and stores. I take it all in with a wagging tail and a smile. I want to be everybody’s best friend — my foster dad says I have “golden retriever energy” because I greet everyone (and dog!) I can. People always think I’m still a puppy because I’m so happy, friendly, and playful.
My leash manners are pretty good — I don’t pull that often (mostly to greet another dog), though I do like to zig-zag a few steps ahead just to check out what’s next. With a bit of leash training, I’ll be the perfect walking companion. I can go for miles without tiring out, so I’d be happiest in a home that enjoys being active and spending time outdoors.
Inside, I’m easy. I’m house trained, quiet, not a counter surfer, and not a beggar. I enjoy the couch (if invited!) but stay off the bed, and I never chew on anything I shouldn't. I’m gentle with toys and mostly want to play with you. I love my crate — it’s my favorite spot to nap during the day and I tuck myself in there through the night, even if the door’s open. I like to be near you if it seems like something fun might happen, but otherwise, I’m happy to chill in the other room while you work. I’m quiet if you have to leave and settle right down.
I’d fit in well with lots of homes — I’m gentle indoors and don’t play rough, and would be great with kids. I’d probably enjoy having another dog around to show me the ropes and play with too. More than anything, I’m just an easygoing, well-adjusted guy who’s ready to find his forever family — and maybe go for some adventures while we’re at it.
