Hi, I’m Harley!
I’m MLRR’s resident pseudo Labrador — even though I’m actually a fluffy mix girl with a big heart and an even bigger love for my people. My story started out a little rough. I was rescued by one of MLRR’s partners who needed to get me out of a truly difficult situation. My previous owner had severe mental health struggles and wasn’t able to care for me properly, so I didn’t get the love, stability, or attention I deserved. When I first came into rescue, I was in pretty rough shape… but even then, I loved my people fiercely.
Thankfully, my foster family showed me kindness, patience, and what it feels like to finally be safe. They helped me start healing and discover how wonderful life can be.
We truly thought we had found my perfect forever home with a lovely family who loved me very much. But after adoption, they realized that they simply weren’t the right fit for my needs. They lived in a very busy environment, and city life may just not be my thing. With heavy hearts, they asked MLRR to take me back so I could find a home better suited for me.
After I returned to rescue, MLRR decided the best thing for me would be to work closely with a professional trainer to fully evaluate me and help me continue growing into the amazing dog I’m meant to be. And guess what? I am thriving! I’m doing so well and learning more every day.
What I really need is a confident, patient handler who can help me feel confident in new or stressful situations. A quieter home and a calmer lifestyle would help me shine brightest. And the best part? After adoption, MLRR’s trainer will continue working with my new family to make sure we all have the tools we need to succeed together. They want to make sure both you and I can build the loving, happy relationship we both deserve — and become the best team ever.
Now, onto the fun stuff!
I may be a mature lady, but I still have plenty of pep in my step!
One of my absolute favorite things in the world is car rides! I’d be thrilled to join you on a day trip, a camping adventure, or really anything that involves hopping in the car and going somewhere together.
At home, I enjoy playing outside with the other pups. We run and wrestle a bit, but not for too long — after all, I am a lady.
Fetch isn’t really my thing (no tennis balls for me, please), but I do love a good chew toy or a fun game of tug. Sometimes I can get a little excited and a bit mouthy during play, so I just need gentle reminders to keep my manners polished.
Speaking of manners, I actually have pretty great house skills! I’m fully potty trained, crate trained, and very food motivated — which makes learning new things much easier. I don’t really need a crate, though I have been known to investigate a countertop or two. When my foster parents tell me “no,” I listen like a good girl.
I haven’t had the chance to try lakes or ponds yet, but I might be open to giving water adventures a try someday. My start in life may have been hard, and I can still be a little head shy because of it, but I’m resilient, loving, loyal, and so ready for my next chapter.
Even though I’ve got a few miles on me, I still have so much love left to give. I truly believe I deserve a fresh start — and I promise, I’m worth it.
