Meet Francis “Fran” (aka Frankie!)

Hi there! My name is Francis, yes, like the guy from Assisi, but everyone calls me Frankie. If there’s one word to describe me, it’s upbeat. I’m the kind of dog who loves just about everything: walks (especially walks!), car rides, food, treats, belly rubs, naps, cats (even though they don’t want to play with me), other dogs, and most of all, humans.

I’m clever, athletic, and very affectionate. Nothing much fazes me, and I settled right into my foster home like I’d always lived there. Did I mention I love walks? Say the word “walk,” show me the leash, and I’ll sit politely while you clip me in and wait for your cue to head out. I may pull just a little when something exciting catches my eye, but I quickly remember to refocus on my human. Car rides are another favorite, I love them and behave very well in the car.

I’m fully house-trained and a great house guest. I don’t chew on things, and I rarely bark—only to let you know we have a visitor. I don’t have an aggressive bone in my body, even when people touch my food. Because I’m smart, athletic, and have a big appetite, I’ve been known to sneak food that isn’t mine (cat food is very tempting!), but I’m working on my self-control.

I love treats and will happily do just about anything for them, which makes training fun. I know sit and down, and I’m working hard on stay. At night, I sleep on my own bed next to my human. When I’m on my own, I nap quietly, but if you’re around and not busy, I love to cuddle up close.

In essence, if you’re looking for an active, unflappable, and affectionate companion with a joyful outlook on life, I would love to be your wingman.

One important health note: I am heartworm positive, but I’m already more than halfway through my treatment and doing great. My next vet visit is on 2/9, and I can’t wait to be finished and fully healed. MLRR works with a wonderful veterinarian who is taking excellent care of me, and MLRR will cover all of my treatment costs. For just a few more weeks, I just need to stick to leash walks before I’m completely healed and ready for full adventures.
