Role Description - Foster Home Coordinator


The Foster Home Coordinator for MLRR has the primary responsibility of recruiting, on-boarding, training and supporting foster home volunteers for the rescue.

Some of the specific responsibilities are:

  • Receive, evaluate and respond to all foster home volunteer applications.
  • Document all conversation updates in ASM.
  • Email qualified applicants the link to our Foster Agreement for submission.
  • Upload the signed copy of the FHA to the applicant’s ASM record.
  • Secure an experienced foster home to perform a home visit for the applicant. Instruct volunteer how to fill out and submit the home visit report via MLRR’s website.
  • Upload completed Foster Home Visit Report to ASM.
  • Forward both the FH Application and FH Visit Report to the Board for approval.
  • Inform applicant of approval or denial.
  • If approved, send link to join Facebook Foster Home Group.
  • Update Mailchimp & ASM with status of volunteer to enable correct filter view in ASM and messaging in Mailchimp.
  • Welcome new foster home volunteer to the team.
  • Review Foster Home Manual with new foster home, as well as proper introductions of their incoming foster dog into their home.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with foster homes through all means of communication, including, but not limited to email, text, phone, messenger and Facebook.
  • Check in with foster homes, both active and inactive, on a regular, consistent basis.
  • Maintain contact with foster home from the moment they receive a new foster dog through adoption day.
  • Ensure foster home receives support and communication from the medical, training, transport, placement and marketing coordinators.
  • Secure alternative foster home/boarding in the event the foster home has dog sitter needs.
  • Ensure foster home has adequate supplies for their foster dog.
  • Ensure foster home abides by MLRR policies for their foster dog.
  • Collaborate with foster home on progress of foster dog to determine eligibility for adoption.
  • Solicit pictures and bio for posting: forward to marketing coordinator.
  • Update ASM with foster home’s status.
  • Communicate any foster home suggestions and concerns with appropriate coordinators.
  • Collaborate with training coordinator and volunteer coordinator to organize training workshops and meet-ups for foster homes.
  • Communicate all major concerns about foster dogs to the board, i.e. behavior issues beyond basic training.
  • Reply to all emails within a timely fashion.
  • Submit monthly coordinator report to board.
  • Attend Board/Coordinator meetings.

The ideal candidate is organized, is detail oriented and possesses excellent communication skills. Estimated commitment is 15-20 hours per month.
