Yoda

Adopted!

Hi there! My name is Yoda, and what you see is what you get; 85 pounds of pure labby, loyal, love. I’m a 3-year-old yellow lab mix who is looking for love. You could definitely say that I am made for bachelor life. I love hanging out with my foster fam, and I don’t want to share any of the attention or cuddles with other dogs, but I am all the dog you will ever need. As you can tell I'm on the larger size, but I don’t really understand that yet. I love to sit in your lap, lean against you, or even climb up to give hugs while you’re sitting on the couch. Because of this, and me still learning how to share my things, I’d probably do best in a child-free home. I have the BEST puppy dog eyes this side of the Mississippi, but for some reason my foster family won’t fall for it, even though I try really, reallyyyyy hard. I’m learning that when it’s dinner time for the humans, even though I want to sit directly in front of them to catch all their scraps, I have to go lay down and give them some space. Apparently drooling is a little off putting in some people's eyes; Who knew? I’m tall enough to sniff the counters but I have never jumped up to grab anything, and I have never taken food that didn't belong to me. Potty training is something you won't have to worry about. I will let you know when I have some business to take care of by going to the door and looking back at you.

Walking is one of my favorite things to do, I get so excited that I whine at the door until you’re ready to go. My foster family tells me I’m dramatic. When we do leave the house, my foster family always asks me to wait at the door before I can go outside (or inside). I’m getting really good at this. When we go to new places or new neighborhoods, I’m very excited and will pull, but once I’m familiar with the area my walking skills really shine.

When we’re hanging out in the house, my favorite place is right next to you. If you’re on the computer, I’ll lay at your feet, if you're making dinner, I’ll be right there next to you on scrap patrol. I definitely understand that there’s a time and place for crazy, fun energy, and I’m able to calm down and chill out when I need to.

Okay, time for my quirky stuff.

I’m still learning personal space, and I like to be right in your face to give you kisses. I would jump up if I could but I’m really big so I just kinda hop around when I’m excited. My foster family is working on this with me.

The car is a scary place for me (remember, I’m dramatic), so sometimes I will cry while we drive places. My foster family is showing me that it’s not so bad being in the car when there are treats involved (and boy am I treat motivated) and I have successfully made it through a few rides with little to no crying.

I am a dog of mystery. Most of the time I want all the love and pets and cuddles you have to offer. But sometimes, usually later in the evening, I like to have my own personal space and time. I appreciate very much when my foster family respects my boundaries. They always ask me for consent before reaching out to pet me, especially my head. They will reach their hand out to me, and depending on my mood, if I want pets I will lean into their hand or make it very obvious that I'm open for pets and cuddles, but sometimes, when I turn my head away, or use body language to let them know I would like to be left alone, they oblige. The first day I came home to them they didn’t know this, and so when they would pet me or reach for me when I wanted to just chill on my own, I would let them know that I wanted my own space by growling. I would never hurt or bite anyone, it’s just my way of letting my family know that I need space.

My crate is my happy place. When I want to be alone, I will go in there and hang out. My foster fam knows to let me be when this happens. I love being in my crate and have no qualms with going in there and spending time there when my foster fam needs to go out or can't be with me.

I’m an extremely intelligent dog. Anything my foster family teaches me I pick up really quickly. If you might be interested in me, come on over to meet me! I’ll give you kisses and snort like a pig at you to show I’m happy. So, what do you think? I know I’m a little sassy and dramatic, but doesn’t cuddles, love, and constant companionship sound so wonderful?
