Hello, I’m Sir Barkley — a true gentleman in search of my forever home.
I’m told I have excellent manners, and I take pride in that. I’m fully house trained, I don’t chew on things that aren’t mine, and I always greet people with all four paws on the ground. I take treats gently, know commands like sit and come, and I walk very politely on a leash. I really do try to be the best companion I can be.
My life changed very suddenly. I lost my beloved human in a tragic car accident, and within just 10 days, I also lost my dog sibling and my home. I ended up in a shelter and was transported to Illinois—it was a very scary time for me. When I first arrived at my foster home, I was so frightened that all I could do was tremble.
But my foster family gave me patience, kindness, and space to feel safe again. The other dogs helped me learn that everything was going to be okay. Now, I love sharing the couch for cuddles and staying close to my people. I’d happily sleep in bed with them, but since it’s full, I politely sleep beside it to keep them safe—just like they keep me safe.
I really enjoy having other dogs around. They help guide me and show me the routine. I’ve learned how to use a doggy door, and I adapt quickly when I understand the rules. I’m a clever and caring boy too—I once helped my foster sibling by opening a door when she got stuck!
I’m more of a gentle soul than a wild player, but I do enjoy a little game of chase now and then. Mostly, I just want to be near my people and share my love.
I promise to be a devoted, loyal companion.
If you have patience, kindness, and maybe a furry friend for me, I will give you my whole heart.
