As you know, 2020 has been a year unlike any other. Our rescue operations have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have rescued a record number of dogs so far this year - 187 dogs! Last year, we were able to rescue 64 dogs.
At Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue, it is our mission to rescue unwanted and abandoned Labs and give them a second chance at a great life in a loving home. This year marks MLRR’s 21st year of saving these amazing souls, thanks to the generosity and continued support of angels like you.
We are a 100% volunteer run organization, with no paid employees. When you donate to MLRR, your funds go directly toward ensuring our rescued dogs receive food, toys, treats and medical care.
Many of the dogs we save require care beyond the basics, while others have urgent medical needs that can cost thousands of dollars. It costs MLRR an average of $1,500 per rescued dog in medical expenses alone. This year, we have rescued a record number of heartworm-positive dogs, which has stretched our budget. We help Labs like Peaches, who was injured after being hit by a car.
We also help Labs like Miller, who was diagnosed with cancer shortly after being rescued by MLRR but was placed in a loving foster home where he was able to enjoy a life filled with love before he crossed over the rainbow bridge earlier this summer. And, we help Labs like Marley, a 7-year-old blind and diabetic yellow Lab.
We help Labs with behavior issues as well and currently have three dogs consulting with a veterinary behaviorist. And while MLRR has been challenged with medical cases this year, we also have been able to rescue many puppies and other dogs who are looking for their second chance at love.
None of this possible, though, without YOU!
MLRR relies solely on the generosity of donors, supporters, and followers who help ensure the organization is successful in its mission. Our dedicated network of volunteers all play a key role in rescuing dogs from dire situations and prepare them for a better life ahead in their forever homes. You also play a key role.
Together, “We Give Labs a Second Chance.”
Please consider supporting our mission by making a donation during our Annual Appeal. We realize this year is challenging for many but we hope you'll consider supporting MLRR. Every donation - no matter how small - makes a difference!
MLRR wishes you a happy holiday season and blessed 2021. Our dogs thank you from the bottom of their hearts for being one of the angels to ensure a better life is ahead!
